A Summer In Poland - 2022
It had been three long years since I last visited Poland to see my family and friends. Global travel restrictions due to the pandemic had made it impossible for me to make the journey from Australia. But last summer, when restrictions finally eased up, I jumped at the chance to hop on an international flight and make my way back to the place I call home.
My trip had a clear highlight: attending the Warsaw Uprising celebrations in the capital city. It was a deeply emotional experience to be in the middle of the crowd, celebrating this important event in Poland's history. With the ongoing war in Ukraine, the significance of the moment was all the more poignant. I found myself shedding tears of both sadness and joy as I took in the sights and sounds of the celebration.
But the wedding of a close friend in Jelenia Gora was also a beautiful highlight of the trip. It was wonderful to be part of such a special occasion and to see so many familiar faces again. The setting was picturesque, the ceremony was touching, and the whole day was filled with love and joy.
Of course, catching up with my friends and family was a huge part of the trip too. It was amazing to see how much everyone had grown and changed over the years, especially the kids who were now practically teenagers! We spent hours reminiscing and laughing together, making up for lost time.
Despite having spent three weeks in Poland, it was difficult to say goodbye when it was time to leave. I knew I wanted to come back soon, and so I've already made plans to return in the winter. There's still so much I want to see and do, and so many people I want to catch up with.
Overall, my summer trip to Poland was an unforgettable experience. It was strange to be getting on an international flight again after so long, but it was all worth it to be able to spend time with the people I love in a place that holds such a special place in my heart.
